Current high priority — book ahead of the first hard freeze

RV Winterization & De-Winterization

A hard freeze in an un-winterized RV can damage a water pump and fittings, turning a modest service into a much larger plumbing repair.

Central Oregon's high desert drops below freezing before many owners expect it, often overnight while a rig sits in a driveway or storage lot. Water expands as it freezes, and in an RV the weak points tend to be the expensive ones: the water pump housing, plastic fittings, the water heater, low-point drains and the runs of line behind interior walls where a leak can go unnoticed until spring.

Winterization is done onsite, wherever your RV is parked. Generally, the fresh water system is drained, the water heater is drained and bypassed, low points are cleared, and RV-safe antifreeze is run through the lines and fixtures, including faucets and the toilet.

De-winterization in spring is the other half of the job: flushing the antifreeze out, restoring the water heater, and checking the system before you load up for the first trip. Winterization is currently a high priority service for Fixin Trips heading into the cold months.

Questions

Winterization FAQs

When should I winterize my RV in Central Oregon?

Before the first hard overnight freeze — in practice that means booking in the fall rather than waiting for a cold-snap forecast, since overnight lows in the Bend and Redmond area can drop below freezing earlier than expected.

Can you winterize my RV where it's stored?

Yes. Winterization is mobile service done at your home, property, storage lot or RV park space anywhere in the Central Oregon service area.

What happens if I skip winterizing?

Water left in the system can expand when it freezes and damage components such as the water pump, plastic fittings, the water heater and interior lines. The resulting repair can cost considerably more than the winterization would have.

Do I need de-winterization in spring, or can I just fill the tank?

You can just fill the tank, but that skips important checks. It’s best to have the winterization professionally reversed so the antifreeze is flushed, the water heater is restored, and the water system can be checked to make sure everything is functioning properly before your next trip.
